BrightMinds: Kelly Cox from Share The Drop

Meet Kelly Cox, a Registered Prenatal Yoga Instructor, Birth Doula, LCSW (former mental health therapist), breast cancer survivor and founder of Share the Drop.

Super Mom: If you could choose one superpower to improve mothers' experiences, what would it be?

Take away all of their guilt!

Magic Wand: With a magic wand, what’s the one major challenge in maternal care you’d solve?

Access and education about breastfeeding; available to all moms during pregnancy so they can be educated and prepared.

Dream Influencer: Who would you invite—historical figure, fictional character, or celebrity—to help with your organization, and what role would they play?

Michelle Obama - she could be our brand cheerleader and make all the mamas feel like super heroes!

Oscar Moment: In 2034, you’ve won an award for a maternal care solution. What initiative did you create, and how did it change the industry?

Share the Drop; a web based app connecting mothers with excess breast milk to any family who needs it for their infants, all based on zip codes so milk can be shared quickly and families can create armies of community support.

Inspire Moms: What message would you send to all moms?

Listen less to the societal 'shoulds' and always lean into your intuition.

Your Mom: Has there been a moment when you thought, 'What would Mom do?' How did it influence your decision?

I think about this a lot. I lost my mom three years ago, when Share the Drop was just an idea swimming in my head. I know she would be so proud of me, and this effort. She would tell me to keep going, no matter how many obstacles are in my way.

Boss Mom: What traits or habits do mothers have that would make them great CEOs?

The ability to do so much with very little sleep!

Balancing Act: As a CEO and mother, what are three things you’ve done to stay grounded?

Funny thing about me - I have taught pre and postnatal yoga for 17 + years, have attended births in my community for over a decade, and I am not a mother! It literally never occurred to me to have a baby. As the mother of a business, I find I have to carve out time to stop working. I go to yoga daily, no matter what. I have mentors who I rely on all the time; why do things alone when others have succeeded before me and are willing to help. I also talk to a therapist weekly; even when life is grand, it is always helpful to have an unbiased ear to talk to.
